The basics
What exactly is BluLok?
An industrial-grade smart-entry system built specifically for self-storage. It starts with a machined smart lock for every unit door and scales to gates, man-doors, elevators and sensors — all connected through one BluMesh network and managed from a single web and mobile app.
Can I retrofit my existing units, or is this for new builds only?
BluLok was designed for retrofits and works equally well for new builds. It fits the vast majority of existing unit doors and latches with no structural changes required.
What does it cost?
Costs vary depending on the size and scope of each installation. Contact our team for a quote tailored to your facility.
Hardware & reliability
What happens when the battery dies?
In practice, you'll never get there — the dashboard sends low-battery alerts well in advance so your team can address it before it becomes a problem. But if a battery does run out, two layers of protection kick in. First, the lock's mechanical core keeps the unit secured at zero charge — it never unlocks because power ran out. Second, NFC "Jumpstart" lets staff or tenants tap to power and open a dead lock in seconds, so nobody is ever stranded waiting on a battery swap.
How long does the battery actually last?
Testing indicates 5+ years of battery life under normal operating conditions — in fact, the battery's shelf life is the limiting factor, not daily usage. Real-world duty cycles draw so little power that self-discharge will occur before regular operations put a meaningful dent in capacity. Low-battery alerts will notify you well ahead of time regardless.
How does it handle Canadian winters?
BluLok was designed and built for rugged Canadian winters. It has been tested in conditions simulating freezing rain and outdoor subzero temperatures — held to oil and gas reliability standards, which is exactly the kind of environment our engineering team builds for professionally.
How do I know it won't fail like the systems I've used before?
We tested one continuously through 1.1 million lock-and-unlock cycles — roughly eleven times the industry's usual benchmark — with zero product failures. Read the 1M Cycle Challenge results →
Installation & operations
What does installation involve?
BluLok is designed plug-and-play: mount, pair, and go. Facilities are typically up and running in a single visit, and the modular design means you can start with unit locks and add gates, elevators and sensors later without replacing anything. Who does the install is up to you — we can handle it, your own team can, or a local electrical contractor works just fine.
Does it integrate with my property management software?
Integrations are planned with most major facility management software providers. If yours isn't on the list yet, it will be soon — reach out and let us know what you're running.
How do updates and new features arrive?
Over the air. New features and improvements roll out remotely to every lock on your site — no truck rolls, no downtime, no hardware swaps.
What does my staff see day to day?
One dashboard — web or mobile — for the whole facility: real-time access logs, battery levels, alerts the moment a door opens or something's off, and remote control of overlocks and removals without walking the rows.
Tenants & access
How do tenants unlock their unit?
Through the BluLok mobile app — tenants unlock their unit directly from their phone. Additional access methods are in development and will be available soon.
What if a tenant's phone is dead or they don't use smartphones?
Currently, the BluLok mobile app is the primary access method. Additional access options are in development and will be available soon — including options that don't require a smartphone.
What gets logged, and who can see it?
Every access attempt — successful or failed — is logged the moment it happens. The management team can see all activity across the facility, and each tenant can see the access history for their own unit.
Availability & beta
Can I buy BluLok today?
We're rolling out deliberately. The first live facility is running now, a beta cohort of prominent storage brands begins in September 2026, and broader availability follows. See the full roadmap →
How do I join the beta program?
A limited number of beta partner facilities will be added before the end of the year, alongside a cohort that already includes coast-to-coast and market-leading operators. Apply to become a beta partner →
Where is BluLok available?
Designed and engineered in Canada, with initial availability across Canada and a U.S. launch to follow shortly after.
